Three-day Stop TB Partnership Global Meeting held in Istanbul

From January 22 to 24, 2025, the global meeting “United in Advocacy to End TB” was held in Istanbul, Turkey, organized by the Stop TB Partnership.

During three days, more than 100 participants — including representatives of TB-affected communities, civil society organizations, national TB programs, members of parliament, researchers, and donors — worked on a joint advocacy strategy for TB elimination and discussed communication approaches for the coming years.

The meeting focused on key issues such as:

  • Funding TB response efforts and identifying new sources of financing;
  • Expanding access to modern prevention, diagnostic, and treatment tools;
  • Engaging communities and fostering multisectoral partnerships between government agencies and non-governmental organizations;
  • Reducing stigma and discrimination for people affected by TB;
  • Preparing for the upcoming World TB Day.

Yuliia Kalancha, the Executive Director of TBEC, shared with participants the key ingredients for successful advocacy in the WHO European Region. She emphasized that sustainable advocacy requires sustainable funding, without which even the most impactful ideas remain unrealized. Additionally, she highlighted the importance of a multisectoral approach to TB elimination and the need for coordinated, consolidated efforts from all stakeholders. The outcomes of the meeting are expected to provide new momentum to global TB elimination efforts, strengthen political support, and expand financing for TB response initiatives.
