The qualitative phase of the international study on addressing gender-based violence against women affected by TB has begun

As part of the international research project aimed at developing a conceptual framework for addressing gender-based violence against women affected by TB, a series of group interviews and focus group discussions has commenced in Ukraine.

At this stage, the study involves representatives of key stakeholder engaged in the development of relevant policies and programmes, as well as service providers working directly with women affected by TB. In subsequent phases, the study will also involve women affected by TB and gender-based violence, as well as representatives of communities.

The study protocol has been reviewed and approved by the Ethics Committee of the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The study, which was launched several months ago, aims to better understand why and how women directly affected by TB, as well as women caring for family members with TB, experience gender-based violence.

Ukraine is one of three high TB burden countries, alongside Indonesia and South Africa, selected by the York University (Canada) to participate in this research. The study in Ukraine is coordinated by the TB Europe Coalition in close collaboration with and with the support of national partners.

The findings of the study will contribute to the development of a global community-informed conceptual framework aimed at addressing the root causes and consequences of gender-based violence in the context of TB.
