The WHO First Global Forum on Advancing Multisectoral and Multistakeholder Engagement and Accountability to End TB took place in Bangladesh

Over 160 participants from around the world joined WHO's first-ever Global Forum on Advancing Multisectoral and Multistakeholder Engagement and Accountability to End TB, held on June 23-24 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The event has brought together the leaders and representatives of the WHO Global TB Program, international partners, ministries and NTP leaders from different countries, civil society and people affected by TB.

Yuliia Kalancha, Executive Director of the TBEC, presented a report on the role of civil society in supporting Multisectoral Accountability Framework to end TB (MAF-TB) implementation in Ukraine. To remind, in March 2024, under the leadership of the NTP of Ukraine and support of the Country Coordinating Mechanism Secretariat, an Algorithm for the implementation of MAF-TB was adopted in Ukraine at the national level in accordance with the 10 steps proposed by WHO. This Algorithm, among the other things, formalized the decision to consider the country's MAF-TB implementation plan to be included in two national strategies, as well as public reporting by all stakeholders and a planned triennial high-level TB ending review.

In addition, during the forum, Yuliia Kalancha on behalf of the WHO Civil Society Task Force on TB delivered a statement on CSOs’ and communities’ priorities in the context of MAF-TB, which the Task Force considers important to address when developing and implementing national strategic plans (NSPs). The statement contains concrete proposals to strengthen the meaningful engagement of CSOs and communities in the planning, development of NSPs and theirs further implementation and reporting.

We believe this international forum will provide new momentum for countries to launch and implement the MAF-TB as an important foundation for TB elimination at national level and one of the key commitments of countries in the context of the implementation of the Political Declaration on TB.
