A consolidated report on the analysis of determinants and barriers in the cascade of care for people with drug-resistant TB in Moldova and Tajikistan has been published – https://tbcoalition.eu/resource/files/2026/08/analysis-of-barriers-in-the-cascade-of-care.pdf.
The study aimed to systematically analyse the key barriers faced by people with multidrug-resistant/rifampicin-resistant TB (MDR/RR-TB) in accessing TB-related services, from the onset of symptoms through treatment completion and subsequent reintegration into the community.
The report highlights the main gaps identified across the care cascade, covering both medical and non-medical aspects, with a particular focus on the role of community-based support services and the lived experiences of people affected by TB.
Based on the evidence generated through the analysis, the report provides practical recommendations aimed at:
- improving access to services and strengthening retention of people with TB in care;
- reducing treatment interruptions and delays in treatment initiation;
- strengthening the capacity of healthcare workers;
- integrating health and social services within a person-centred model of care.
The study was conducted by the TB Europe Coalition (TBEC) in partnership with SMIT (Moldova) and KNCV Tajikistan as part of the interregional COMBAT DR-TB project, funded by Unitaid.
