"Achieving the UN HLM Commitments on TB: Regional Dialogue in Europe and Central Asia” was conducted in Uzbekistan

On June 24, a 2-day event “Achieving the UN High Level Meeting Commitments on Tuberculosis: Regional Dialogue in Europe and Central Asia” has started in Tashkent (Uzbekistan).

The event, organized by Stop TB Partnership and WHO Regional Office for Europe with the support of USAID brought together leaders and staff from ministries of health, NTP, parliamentarians, civil society organizations and people affected by TB, as well as international partners.

TB Europe Coalition represented by Program Managers Vlada Rabinova and Lesya Tonkonog and Board members Stefan Radut, Liliana Caraulan, Oleksandra Denysenko, Oxana Rucsineanu and Cristina Celan.

On a first day of the event after the welcome words followed the reports of Dr Hans H. Kluge and Dr Askar Yedilbayev from the WHO Regional Office for Europe and Dr. Suvananda Sahoo from the Stop TB Partnership who provided participants with up-to-date information on TB in the context of the health development agenda in the WHO European Region, global challenges, opportunities and actions to end TB by 2030 and TB situation and response in the WHO European Region.

Special attention was given to the presentation of an online course on the Standardized package of community-based support services to improve TB outcomes which was developed by the TBEC in collaboration with WHO/Europe and will soon be available on the "Open WHO Platform".

Political commitment to achieve UNHLM TB targets in the Region and key steps to sustain the political momentum were discussed by leaders and representatives of Ministries of Health in a high-level panel discussion moderated by Dr. Lucica Diciu.

This was followed by moderated working group discussions and presentations on their work on ensuring high level awareness and political engagement in TB response, with linkages to UHC, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), pandemic preparedness and response (PPPR) and broader development agendas.

The first day of the event concluded with presentations on the The Global Fund support to TB responses in EECA countries and USAID's Global TB Strategy (2023-2030) and its support to end TB.
