While on a working visit to Washington, DC (USA), our colleagues Yuliia Kalancha and Lesya Tonkonog joined a public action organized by MSF as part of a broad advocacy campaign “Time for $5”.
Activists gathered near Danaher headquarters on October 17, 2024, to hand over a petition demanding to reduce the price of medical tests to $5 so that more people around the world can access disease diagnostics and timely treatment. The petition with 206,937 signatures of organizations and individuals was printed on 400 pages!
Less than 60 minutes after the campaign, the California and Washington State Departments of Health formally requested to be included in this advocacy initiative, as they too cannot afford the $30 cartridges - a real barrier to testing, as demand for tests exceeds their supplies and budget.
We look forward to seeing what the campaign will bring to the forefront, and thank all TBEC members and partners who signed the petition, as well as our partners at MSF and TAG for organizing this important advocacy initiative!
