PUT YOUR MASK ON FIRST: Practical Tools for the Sustainability of CSOs and Communities Amidst Funding Cuts

INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT POLICY PACKAGE

In light of the global reduction in funding for civil society organizations and communities working against TB, the TB Europe Coalition urges CSOs to strengthen their organizational resilience!

For today civil society must not only focus on continuing service provision and other activities under existing funding but also ensure their organizational sustainability. This will enable them to continue their fight against TB and support the people who rely on them.

"Put your mask on first before assisting others" — this widely known safety rule in emergency situations aboard an airplane serves as a fitting analogy for the current challenges faced by civil society and communities.

As part of the Stop TB Partnership’s global campaign for World TB Day — Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver — TBEC is widely sharing practical tools to help CSOs build resilience.

By strengthening each member and partner of the coalition, we reinforce our collective capacity and share the responsibility of ensuring others can endure and continue the progress made in fighting TB.

Today, we introduce a set of 25 institutional development policies and procedures. To access the policy templates, please send a request to coordinator@tbcoalition.eu.

Why do organizations need policies?

Over the past years, donor requirements for organizations have become significantly stricter. More and more, we see donors prioritizing organizations that have established themselves as resilient structures with well-defined internal policies and procedures. Some donors consider these policies mandatory, while others see them as highly desirable.

Key benefits of having policies and procedures:

  •        Alignment with international standards, making organizations more attractive to major donors.
  •           Strengthening internal governance, reducing risks, and enhancing operational efficiency.
  • Іncreasing trust from partners, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Eligibility for participation in major international funding opportunities, where comprehensive policy frameworks are a key selection criterion.

TBEC invites all interested CSOs/communities to develop a comprehensive policy and procedure package using our templates. These documents will support not only engagement with UN Agencies but also with other donors who have strict institutional requirements.

Only by working together can civil society remain resilient! And despite all challenges, we will stand firm and say: "Yes! We Can End TB!"
