Forum on Multisectoral Partnership to End TB was held in the Kyrgyz Republic

On November 26, a Forum on Multisectoral Partnership to End TB took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The event, organized by the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic (KR) and the National Center of Phthisiology  of KR with support from the TB Europe Coalition, focused on reviewing multisectoral actions for TB elimination and developing consolidated strategies to strengthen these efforts.


The event was attended by parliamentarians, heads and employees of ministries and departments, representatives of civil society and communities, as well as delegates of international organizations. The goal of the forum was to strengthen the multisectoral response to TB in the Kyrgyz Republic by launching the Multisectoral Accountability Framework to End TB (MAF-TB).


Members of Parliament, the Deputy Minister of Health, a representative of the WHO country office and the Executive Director of TBEC addressed the forum participants with welcoming remarks.


Following a detailed presentation by Professor Kadyrov, Director of the National Center of Phthisiology, on the epidemiological situation of TB in the country, Dr. Sayohat Hasanova from the WHO Regional Office for Europe presented the WHO Multisectoral Accountability Framework to End TB to the participants. As part of the event, the staff of the National Center for Tuberculosis also presented the results of the Baseline Assessment of the MAF-TB situation in the Kyrgyz Republic under the first and third Annexes.


Also, during the day, the participants familiarized themselves with reports on information and explanatory work on the prevention of TB among labor migrants, on the TB response of the State Penitentiary Service under the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic, on monitoring the provision of tuberculosis services conducted by the Ombudsman of the Kyrgyz Republic. Representatives of international and public organizations also presented their activities in the field of fight against TB in the country.


At the end of the forum, TBEC Programme Manager Lesya Tonkonog presented to the participants further steps in strengthening multisectoral cooperation on MAF-TB in the Kyrgyz Republic and the TBEC-developed matrix of MAF-TB indicators for the country.


Following the event, the participants agreed on a forum resolution outlining key multisectoral actions to accelerate progress in ending  TB in the Kyrgyz Republic.
