Country preparation for TB HLM 2023: advocacy letters templates

As you know, on September 22, 2023, the UN General Assembly will hold a High-Level Meeting on Tuberculosis (UNHLM on TB), where UN member countries will discuss the current situation with TB in the world, taking into account the analysis of implementation of commitments and achievement of the global goals of the Political Declaration on TB 2018 and agree on a new Political Declaration with clear steps and plans to end TB.

Considering the unique importance of this event for the TB sector, we ask you on behalf of civil society and affected communities to actively contribute to the processes of preparing your country for participation in the UNHLM on TB.

In particular, we invite you to send advocacy letters to the:

Head of State/Government

Minister of Health

Templates for such letters have been prepared for your convenience https://cutt.ly/k4iboQj. In the future, it would be better to translate them into the state language that is used in your country for communication with government agencies.

Please note that you can modify these templates at your discretion, for example, by adding up-to-date statistics or other important data in your opinion. Gaps that need to be filled are highlighted in yellow.

You can address a letter to the Head of State/Government either to one of the first persons or to several at the same time, depending on the context of the country. In the same way, you can change the list of recipients who will receive a copy of this letter.

Please note that it will be most effective for these letters to be signed by as many representatives of civil society and communities as possible, for which we suggest that you widely distribute them among your colleagues in the country and enlist their support in these appeals.

Also, for your review, we are sending you the Resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly on the conditions and format for conducting the UNHLM on TB in Russian and English (you may consider it appropriate to attach these documents to the letters).

We will be happy to provide you with any additional support so that the leaders and the Minister of Health of your country learn about the UNHLM on TB and start the processes of preparing the country for the UNHLM on TB as soon as possible.
